Letters from Prius Users

Hi Patrick,
I’ve got an interesting fault on my LPG Prius. The Carman scanners can’t access the hybrid ECU or battery ECU and the SOC control seems to be disabled which puts the turtle on a lot for no apparent reason. The fan runs a lot too, whenever the gas pedal is pressed more than halfway down which is the opposite to what I expected. The only way I can make it half drivable is to force charge it for 10 minutes. The display goes up to full in the first 20 seconds but carries on charging for another 9 minutes which suggests it doesn’t have a clue what it’s doing with the traction battery. I thought the battery ECU had failed but when I swapped the battery ECUs with another Prius it killed the second battery ECU so now I have 2 Prius with the same fault, warning triangle but no error codes and the Carman can’t communicate with battery ECU anymore. Any ideas?
On another topic, I buy Prius in the UK with dead battery and recon them just like you do but I’ve never been able to get the warning triangle off or reset the delta SOC counter. I was thinking of sending several battery ECUs back to my man in Japan and get him to take a stripped down Prius to his local dealer and clear the codes in all of them. Can you do this and if so how much do you charge?
Thanks,
Chris.
Comment: It is possible the carman scanner can now clear these error codes. See Scan Tool Information
