What the hell does damper failure means? C2530 was the error code and every time we clear it, it reappears. We could not find any information anywhere and the guys at Toyota were not helpful at all. They basically did not want to have anything to do with it!
First we had to make sure that it was not the hybrid battery at fault so we swap with a known good battery. The same error reappeared. We can clear the fault ( No triangle ) but after running for about 1 minute the triangle would appear again. So we have eliminated the hybrid battery and can now zoom in on the vehicle.
But what the hell is a damper? C2530. The C25XX code is classed with battery errors but it is not the battery that is at fault. So we looked into the usual culprits. MAF sensors, spark plugs, coils, and they all seem in order. In fact the vehicle drives well too.
Well, since it took between 30 secs to 1 minute before the error appeared we decided to check the crankshaft and camshaft sensors. Both were cleaned to show the pure steel surface. The crankshaft sensor was especially dirty and was coated in a film of dried oil. It took quite some effort to clean.
Now the test. We cleared the error, but the dreaded C2530 error was back again. We are really stumped. OK the error came up when we started the engine. It also came up after the vehicle is turned on without the engine being started. So we thought would it also reappear after the first click of the ignition. In this position the plasma display is on but the dash display is not on. Well it did not appear. I was looking at the plasma display as it would show the vehicle and exclamation mark error.
When we turned the vehicle off and started the vehicle again the error was gone!! What did we do? It did not make sense. Our guess is that it must have been the crankshaft sensor. Cleaning it must have been the fix. Perhaps it took sometime to take effect.
