We have seen Estima Hybrids with blown head gaskets and damage gearbox. We have never seen this problems in all the Prius hybrids that we have worked on.
This is because the Estima hybrid has a smaller electric drive 18Kw as oppose to the 33 Kw in the Prius. This means that if the hybrid battery is weak the EV side contribution is significantly reduced making the ICE work to produce the higher torque that it was not designed to do. This increase pressure blows the head gasket. The planetary gears could also be compromised when the power contribution is not shared as it was designed to do.
