Clean Energy

Green and Sustainable

It’s all about sustainability and leaving as little an impact on our environment. Every activity we incur in our day to day living impacts on our environment. Turn on the lights and the electricity may be generated from fossil fuels, drive our motor vehicle and we are burning oil, buy a bottle of shampoo and the plastic tubes and packaging may be made from oil. There are many approaches and ideas on how to wean ourselves from our oil addiction.

Our approach is to change people’ s mindset about energy by starting on the road to energy self sufficiency with the purchase of 1 solar panel. An entry system comprising 1 panel, controller and battery cost $650. We have reduced the system cost so that it is affordable. In New Zealand there are no subsidies or incentives for going green.

When our mindset change we start to use less power because we will turn lights off, turn off unused appliances, television and computers at source. We will start to use solar lighting and cars that are less damaging to the environment. We will be conscious of offsetting the impact of our carbon footprint. Most important we will start others on this path and demand that our products come from environmentally friendly businesses.

The Battery Clinic Contributions

Batteries. The lead acid battery is an indispensable part of our lives. We use it in our vehicles, it is the only viable and cost effective means of power storage. We use it in our UPS backup, in our security alarm and much more.

The Battery Clinic ‘restores’ lead acid batteries, meaning that we recondition them and give them a new lease of life. Potentially to about three times it’s original designed useful life.

Some people worry that restored batteries can’t last and that they risk being stranded or that it is false economy using restored batteries. This perception is no longer true.

Restored batteries are produced by pulsing a battery with high frequency ultra sound energy which breaks up hard sulphate crystals still on to the battery plates. These lead sulphate are converted to their active state of lead dioxide and soft lead effectively resulting in a ‘new battery’. We have been doing this commercially for over 5 years and we know that our ‘restored batteries’ can last 2 or more years in vehicles and more than 4 years in storage applications.

Hybrid Cars

The power jockey is our enabling technology that will take the hybrid vehicle into the mainstream, as it has the ability to enable the original main hybrid battery to be used for the entire life of the vehicle.

Solar Energy

Grid connect systems are not advisable unless you can generate more than 20 KW daily, You will need permission from your lines supplier and an agreement to sell power to you electricity supplier. You will have to pay for the installing and monthly reading of your export meter. Even if they charge you $30 a month for reading the export meter, you will have to generate 8 KW a day with no benefit accruing to you.

In order to overcome this we have introduced a system that will heat your hot water cylinder or supply power first using solar power that you generate and then grid power when your batteries are depleted. This means that you will get full credit from the solar power you generate. (2.5 kilowatt of power will increase the temperature of 100 liters of water by 40 degrees centigrade.)

The most basic system is a panel, a controller, a battery and an DC/AC regulator.

Wind Power

Those wanting to be self sufficient in energy must consider a wind generator. Our RB900 wind generator can generate as much power as 40 solar panels.

Waste Disposal:

The battery clinic has an agreement with the Auckland Regional Council to dispose of all the batteries collected by their Hazmobile collections. This is because we introduce an extra level of battery disposal – REUSE. By reusing batteries we save money, resources and our environment
