Green Rentals franchise is a car rental business that uses hybrids vehicles only in the rental fleet.
Hybrid vehicles have never been used in the vehicle rental industry because operators were wary of the cost of hybrid battery replacements and mechanical repairs when they break down.
The Battery Clinic pioneered the reconditioning and repair of hybrid batteries for hybrid cars, developed and patented the Power Jockey system which extends the useful life of the original hybrid battery to an excess of 15 years, which is well beyond the 8 years they were designed for.
With the Power Jockey installed Hybrid cars older than 6 years are now reliable, fuel efficient, low maintenance, environmentally friendly and ideally suited for the rental industry. Using hybrid vehicles in the rental fleet is a win win situation for the hirer, the operator and the environment.
Vehicles are purchased with their hybrid batteries fully reconditioned and equipped with the Power Jockey from Green Cars Only, which is a subsidiary of The Battery Clinic. Servicing and maintenance of vehicles in the fleet is contracted to Hybrid & Electric a hybrid vehicle repair specialist which is also subsidiary of The Battery Clinic.
The stage is now set to provide fully maintained used hybrid vehicles to the car rental and vehicle leasing industry.
Used hybrids vehicles cost no more and for the look and quality of ride possibly less than standard vehicles. They can therefore be offered at the same price for hire as standard vehicles. As the customer will save more than half in fuel cost, given the choice they will almost always choose a hybrid over a standard vehicle.
There are 2 main revenue streams :
1) Direct short term rental or lease to the public.
2) Lease to car rental companies on shared revenue basis.
The main expense for the business is vehicle maintenance. Only 1 staff is required to co-ordinate, manage the vehicle fleet and collect revenue.
The vehicles can either be owned outright or finance on a lease. A 50/50 mix is possibly the best way to grow this business. However depending on the amount of capital input this ratio can be changed to maximise profitability.
When customers start demanding hybrid vehicles for hire Rental Companies must provide them or lose out to other operators that do. Add to this the green and environmental angle this business has the potential to grow very quickly.
We can expect each vehicle to earn on average $500 a month.
A window of opportunity now exist to take advantage of this situation to introduce the concept in other countries and or territories.
