The Nimh battery tubes used in the Gen 1 Prius is now 13 years old and getting older by the day. How much longer can these batteries last? We hope that it can last 20 years in use but if we absolutely need a new battery pack, we have found a way to use Gen 2 cells. This means that the longevity of the Gen 1 Prius is almost indefinite.
We have worked out how to use Nhw11 battery modules in the Nhw10 Prius. The whole unit fits inside the original battery enclosure. This ensures that the cooling system operates normally. The good news is that your old Generation 1 Prius can continue to run for as long as you want it to. Cost of conversion is $2500 including installation of the Power Jockey. ( 30/5/2011 )
