A hybrid vehicle will require additional checks during a service from a standard vehicle. If you own a hybrid or electric vehicle you should get it serviced by competent technicians as important checks specific to hybrid vehicles will otherwise be ignored or missed.
Engine Service
Engine performance will affect the charging system and in built charging regime which will in turn affect the state of the hybrid battery, it’s performance and longevity.
1) Clean Mass Air Flow meter and throttle body
2) Check spark plugs, plug in coils and air filter
3) Change engine oil and oil filter.
HV System Service
The hybrid vehicle depends heavily on it’s computer systems for efficient and optimal performance. A vehicle scan should be conducted to check that all systems are functioning correctly and within specified parameters.
4) Check 12 volt battery, main hybrid battery cell modules and state of charge.
5) Reset and realign vehicle computer, and regenerative braking.
6) Check air flow and oxygen sensor readings.
Mechanical Service
Mechanically the hybrid car is the same as a standard vehicle and all the normal running gear should be checked.
7) Check tyre pressure, exhaust system, steering rack and CV boot, radiator fluid, power steering fluid, windscreen washer fluid and cooling system hoses.
Often in life things that seem complicated turn out to be exactly the opposite. The hybrid car is one such item. Mechanically the hybrid car is more reliable and maintenance is very low compared to a standard vehicle. It is capable of doing 600,000 kms without showing the ill effects of engine wear and tear.
