We get this question all the time so I will attempt to answer it here. Toyota states that a new Hybrid battery has an eight year lifespan however the reality is that it is not that simple. Lifespan is dependent on a number of factors including age of the vehicle, usage, mileage on the clock and how well you look after your vehicle.
How do you use your vehicle?
Are you an Uber or Taxi driver driving 1000kms per week or and do you use your vehicle for private use only driving to and from work. How you use your vehicle will affect the lifespan of your hybrid battery. An Uber driver driving their Prius 1200kms per week will be cycling their hybrid battery much more than a private user. Therefore it is logical that using their hybrid in this way will shorten the lifespan.
How old is your vehicle?
It is common for us to see private usage vehicles come in for reconditioning at the 10-11 year mark. Vehicles used as Taxi services or Uber appear to fail much earlier as we generally see these vehicles turning up at the 5 year mark.
How many Kms has your vehicle got on the clock?
Not all high mileage hybrids are the same. If we compare a 2005 Prius with a 2011 Prius were both vehicles have done 165,000kms. The 2011 Prius will almost always be in the worse condition. This is because of the intensity of cycling is a lot harder on the hybrid battery as it has been done over a shorter time period.
How balanced is your hybrid battery?
A key failure point of hybrid batteries is when the individual cells become unbalanced from one another. A typical 20 series Toyota Prius has 28 individual cells and each of these cells have a capacity of approximately 6500mah. Over time this capacity deteriorates down to as low as 1500mah. This deterioration however, is never even while some cells maybe as low as 1500mah others could be 5000mah or higher. An unbalanced hybrid battery will deteriorate faster than one that is evenly balanced.
How often do you service your vehicle?
A hybrid vehicle is a balance between an electric drive and a petrol engine. A poorly performing petrol engine will reduce your fuel economy and put added strain on the hybrid battery. Toyota Prius in particular are very sound mechanically, that often leads to a lot of neglect. Vehicles having done higher mileage are typically prone to this neglect having done 180,000 kms plus without any issues.
We recommend a standard service every 8000kms for Taxi/Uber and every 10000kms or 6months for private usage vehicles.
The length of time your hybrid battery will last is clearly dependent on several factors. While Toyota states an 8 year lifespan we typically see lifespans of 5 – 10 years depending on these factors. Should you wish to maximise the lifespan of your hybrid battery there are some simple things you can do. Regular servicing and maintenance will ensure the petrol engine is not under-performing and putting undue strain on the hybrid battery. A preventative recondition and rebalancing of your hybrid battery would ensure the optimal performance of your hybrid battery. This maybe inconvenient for current owners but those looking to purchase a second-hand model could easily factor it into the purchase price.
Good
Hi Dave, does mpg decrease the older and less effective the battery is?
Yes and no. The depth of discharge tends to be very low so not until it is heavily out of balance will you notice the HV battery causing mileage issues.
My 2007 Camry hybrid started going downhill of mpg’s at about 8 and 1/2 years and 75,000 miles. At that time because it still was under warranty I took it into Toyota to be checked and they told me that it was fine and could not explain the lower mpg.
Maybe a blocked ERG valve / ERG Cooler.
Make sure it’s not something silly like an ebrake
cable getting stuck or some other drag on the vehicle
Hi, I heard that if the main 12 volt battery is weak it decreases gas mileage.
Yes true it can have an effect. The Ice will force charge the 12v if it drops to low and thus using fuel to do so. A strong 12v will reduce the amount of times the vehicle is required to do this. I know many that claim so and the reasoning is very logical.
Best hybrid Toyota to bye
Hi,there is a man offerd a 2012 Toyota preuse it has done 180 miles I don’t know anything about the car, it has a clean title carfax, is it good or should I look for another one??? help plz
Take it to someone that knows what they are looking at
why would car that only does, say,3-4 k miles a week need a 6 month service?
Hi there my uncle have 2004 hybrid one owner
And only done 31000 yet
It has very short run in town some times since he have,,
But I don’t know the condition of battery however it has good service history.
Pls advise how much more life remain in those battery?
Thanx
Like we say battery life is dependent on a number of factors. While you have low kms and good service history it is an old battery being 12 years old. Book a service and HV battery check up and and we can take a closer look for you.
Hi, I drive a 2005 Prius. It’s just clocked over 210,000 km without any issues. In fact, it’s just had a service.
During the service, I asked how much a new 12V battery would cost. I nearly fell over when they said it was $413.00 + GST! I asked why so much – apparently it has something to do with the venting…
Since you’re pretty knowledgeable about these things, what’s your take on this?
Cheers,
Martin.
Yes that would be incorrect, I assume that was at a Toyota dealer? We stock it for $110 (new) $60 (reconditioned) when you trade in your old battery.
Thanks

Hi David,
I have a 2009 Toyota Prius ( Maintened by Giltrap Toyota), recently I had to jumpstart my Prius as I was listening to music in my car for more than half an hour, checked with the nearby mechanic and he said battery has to be changed and he offered me a new battery for $150. But I told him that if I have any issues with the battery I will come and change it, it’s been a month the battery is going good. I just want to have a second check with you. Where can I bring the vehicle for battery check?. You can reach me at 0204288811 or text me your no. Thanks
Just bring it by and we can take a look.
I just paid 435.00 for a new 12 v battery at Toyota. on a 2009 Pruis.
Ouch
Also, can you give me -perhaps- an average cost for a general upkeep service visit in the U.S.? I’m looking at a 2013 with 77,000 miles on it.
I am looking at purchasing a 2016 Corolla hatch hybrid (ex-service loan vehicle from toyota dealer). It’s done 1200 kms. If and when it needs a new hybrid battery, how much much do they cost Also is there a good hybrid mechanic around Kaitaia or northland.
You are unlikely to have any issues in the short term. We are located in Auckland I don’t know of anyone in the Northland region but Toyota should be able to take care of it.
Hi, i have a 2005 prius that marks 299,999 on the clock and i know that my battery needs to be replace my car runs and everything however sometimes it doesnt want to get the gears is that battery related?
What do you mean by “get the gears”? why do you know that your battery needs to be replaced?
Sounds like it could be related to the transmission but you need to be more clear on what your issue is.
I got Toyota Prius 2011. I have done 99000kms I am just wondering how much it cost to replace a hybrid battery. I drive uber and my car usage is too much. I drive around 9000kms a month.
Yes driving for Uber puts you in a high risk category. Bring your vehicle in and service it with us. We can help you to avoid Hybrid battery failure by servicing and looking after the vehicle correctly.
I have a 2008 Toyota Prius hybrid taxi 222000 ks
What is the cost of a new battery?
Many Thanks
Graeme
Sent you an email.
Cheers
Hey David, I am also looking to inquire as to how much a replacement batter would be for a Toyota Camry. It’s a 2009 with 255 000 km on it. Please let me know.

Hi David,
I just bought a Toyota hybrid 2009 here in Auckland and its milleage is 94kms. I believe my battery is old already since the car is 2009. Can you quote me how much it cost to replace the battery. Thabks
Bring it in for a service and we can check it out for you.
Hey David, we have a 2007 highlander hybrid loaded with only 132000 miles…is there a way to test the hybrid cells on how much life is left?
Yes it can be done.
I have a 2011 Camry Hybrid with 69,053 kms. Yesterday i got an alert to check hybrid system. Suspected battery issue. I gather the car as 2 batteries and that the larger one is very expensive. What do these usually cost?
Start with getting it scanned and see what the errors are.
We have a 2005 Prius (purchased new), only 130000km on the clock to date. Just got the “red triangle of hybrid battery death” on Monday and dealer is currently replacing the battery. Total cost (parts & labor) is US $3200. That’s 12yrs on the hybrid battery…pretty good, I think. Never another service issue.
Great car. We’ll probably get another when this one turns 20yrs old (maybe they’ll be flying by then!).
342km on my 2007 Lexus gs450h and the traction battery is going very soon
I am about to buy a 2nd hand Prius, but unknown is the model or the generation as the car owner has not stated yet.
I would like to know when buying a 2nd hand user car what are the things I should consider with regard to car and not about the money.
Thank you
A general prepurchase inspection from the AA is always a good start. I addition to this we can perform a hybrid battery specific prepurchase inspection for greater piece of mind.
Hi
Can you please advise what is the difference between Panasonic Hybrid Battery and Prime Earth Hybrid battery and which is best.
Thanks
It is the same thing. Panasonic changed their name to Prime Earth.
I bought a 2015 Toyota Avalon hybrid with 57000 miles on it. Should I have the battery checked or should it be ok for a while longer and where should I get it checked or serviced when needed
I doubt you will be able to see much wear currently. Every time we perform an engine service for a hybrid vehicle we also carry out a Hybrid battery checkup.
i am purchasing a used 2011 prius 1.8, done 84000km….owner justd change the small battery rm 1300.00 (malaysia). my question when possiblly need change the hybrid battery (now cost rm8000)?
I would not think anytime soon. However I hear the climate in Malaysia / Singapore does deteriorate the batteries quicker.
Hi, I’m looking at options to purchase my first second hand Hybrid vehicle. Do you know of any known issues to commonly cause issues on a Lexus RX 400h 2007 with 272,199km’s on the clock. The ‘Hybrid Battery is broken’ (i’m not sure what that means exactly) BUT are you able to fix a broken battery? If so, how much would that potentially cost?
When can fix this but would need to assess the damage first.
I’m interested in buying a 2014 Camry with 80,000 miles on it. Should I do a battery check and how do I know it’s in good shape?
You can book a prepurchase inspection of the HV battery here and we can take a look for you.
Hello … where are you located … reading the blogs and see you really need to test the battery before purchasing. We are looking at a Lexus 200H and has 78,000 miles on it …. They had to jump it at the dealer to get it started so it kind of worried me but I hear if you don’t drive them a lot that you will have to do that. Afraid of the hybrid but want to gas mileage and love the Lexus… Can you give any input?
Auckland New Zealand….
We have a 2001 Toyota Prius that i think needs battery done or replaced, what prices are on these to fix or new . Thanks
Would need to check this out first. Drop it in and we will have a look.
Hi there wondering an estimated cost for a service and check of 2006 Toyota harrier hybrid. Looking to buy one and bring it in after purchase to you. Many thanks, Alastair
Check the booking system on the main page to price up what you are after.
Hi.. I am willing go buy a 2012 phv plug in prius. Done 80k for abt 17k sale price. Will this last long with battery being replaced or should i ask dealer to give me a check report done from you guys to help me ahead.
We can certainly check it out for you. Just book a time with the booking system that best suits you.
I have a 2008 Prius with 95,000 miles. Is it possible to have the battery checked to see how much more life it has? I don’t feel comfortable driving the car knowing that the battery can just fail while I’m miles away from home; don’t want to get stuck with towing, etc. I will be trading in this Prius for another new one, but am concerned about the life of the battery. Car has no problems now, very good gas mileage. I’d rather wait to get a new Prius, but don’t like the uncertainty of the battery life. Please advise.
Book in a service and we will check this as part of the service.
I’m thinking of getting my wife a Prius. Looking to spend up to $12,000. Are you available to carry out a pre-sales inspection?
Yes just make a booking with the booking system at a time that best suits you.
Going to buy a hybrid voxy online from Japan to Trinidad 2014 model mileage is like 4000miles what’s the risk, stp Japan Is the company
No idea who that is
How much is a hybrid battery for a 2008 Toyota Camry?? And is it cheaper to just get the bad cells replaced?
Replacing bad cells fixes the immediate issue but is not a long term solution. We test capacity and re-balance the bank this is to avoid continuous cell failure.
Hi There,
I have Toyota Sai 2010, How much will it be to replace the battery?
Depends on the actual issue we would need to take a look at it.
I have toyota camry hybrid 2010 its 167000 km
When battries need to be changed?
Depends on the same factors as above.
Hi
I am looking at buying a toyota prius H5e 2006 but it has done 536,800… can you please let me know if the battery needs to be replaced how much will it cost an approximate figure will be enough.
At that milage probably. drop it in and we can take a closer look.
i have a 2010 Prius every couple days I’m having to jump it off. The back battery is good, does that mean it’s the batteries under the hood? It has 170,000 miles on it
Sounds like the 12v battery is dead
Hello my daughter is looking at buying a Lexus 17.900 Hybrid with 86,000 on the clock an 11 plate ,do you think she should research the battery life ?
Always recommended getting a qualified opinion on the HV battery before purchase.

Hi
My Prius C (5years 9months old, 110km mileage) has this message- check hybrid system. I sent to the authorized dealer, they replaced a battery for US$100. They said the hybrid battery has one of the ‘shelf’ not working anymore, the replacement cost is about US$4500. I’ve not replace it as the cost is too high. My question is, is the entire hybrid battery going to break down soon since one ‘shelf’ is not working anymore?
Shelf?
Hi David, what’s your opinion on a 2006 toyota kluger hybrid with 100000km. How much for you guys to check it over? Thanks
$90, have not seen to many and the majority of issues have been related to ecus.
Hi Dave,
I have a Camry 2010 Hybrid, since you’re knowledgable with the hybrid system, I wonder if you can assist me.
Will custom audio system affect my hybrid system? Replacing head unit and speakers, adding subwoofer and amplifier?
Thanks!!
Kind regards,
Chris
Nope.
I have a 2007 prius that has 202000 miles on it . I had to have replace the main battery at 105000. Should i be concerned that i might have to replace it again?
If you look after it correctly no.
Planning to buy camry hybrid 2010 , run 167000 kms , please suggest approximately battery life and replacement cost if damaged.
Thanks
No Idea would have to see it. Best to run it through the check points above.
I just bought a second-hand 2013 Toyota Auris Touring Sport hybrid that has done 141,000 km. I thought age rather than mileage dominated battery deterioration, but sounds like I was wrong? On longer journeys I can get 50+ mpg, but on short journeys I struggle to get much above 30 mpg. Is that indication of a battery problem, or perhaps due to cold (5 deg C) ambient temperature here in the UK?
That would be fairly typical to see much improved mileage on longer journeys vs short trips.
Hello david i,m from pakistan i have purchased axio hybrid 2014 mileage is 43500km how to maintain batteries for longer life
Look after the engine well and it will look after your hybrid batteries
This is a very active and informative site. Our 2005 Prius HV battery is unbalanced and requires replacement. The associated codes have tripped and it is getting poor fuel economy. My question: I have seen a wide range of hours required to replace our HV battery from 1 to 5 hours. What is a reasonable amount of time required for this task on an 05 Prius?
Much appreciated.
Depends what you are doing exactly an hour is enough to swap the whole battery. But if more complex tasks are being done then it can take longer.
what does it mean if its unbalance?
Individual cells are not even and cycling at different rates
Hi David, I have 2010 Prius with 750,000 km on it, now in a cold winter mileage go to 7,8/100km, in a city, if that OK?
I would probably start with a really good service, scrub the air intake and check.clean the ptc and erg cooler.
I am planning to import a reconditioned corolla fielder hybrid 2013 from Japanese auction market. it will be for my private use. does the reconditioned auction market do any conditioning to the battery? how much existing milage should I consider ok if I intend to use the vehicle for next 100000 km?
I don’t know what you mean?
Hi there we are looking to purchase a used 2006 Prius with 178,000 miles they’re wanting $3,800.00 just wondering if this is a smart buy? He replaced the 12v battery in the back and has done regular maintenance but wasn’t sure how long the big battery will hold up
Sounds pretty cheap either way
Hi, I am an 18 year old looking for a car. Is it a good idea to get a 2009 hybrid Camry with 86k miles on it for $6500. How much life do you think is left on the battery with normal wear and tear as well as the cost?
Depends on how well it was looked after without seeing it I couldn’t possibly say
I have a 2009 Prius with 117,000 miles. I bought it new and drive both local and highway. I want to give it to my son. I have had it serviced at a toyota dealership on the recommended schedule. I had already had new water pump, serpentine belt and 12V battery replaced. What other issues need to be addressed? It passed inspection 3 weeks ago.
1.8 or 1.5?
Not sure. Give me info on both
Hi! David

Hi David,
I have just bought a Prius 2008 car from a Uber Driver. It has done 142000kms and he is selling as he cant use it as Uber any more. Should I check the battery? It drives well as I drove it from Auckland to Hamilton. IS there much issues involved in a Prius which was under COF?

Every car is going to be different
Hi David
When I start my engine almost all icons show on the dashboard including Red Trangle for a second. Is it 12 V Battery?
How much it would cost to buy a battery from you for Prius 2008.

Sounds normal
Hi David.
I want to purchase 2017 Highlander hybrid. Are the batteries of the newer cars updated/more efficient compared to the older models (longer life span)? Would you in general recommend the highlander hybrid? Any other issues or important details to have in mind im regards to the 2017 Highlander?
Appreciate your time!
Thank you
The batteries are similar to older models but we notice better battery management systems.
There is an 08 civic hybrid I’m looking at with only 16000 miles! The car looks as new as a ten year old car could look. Does the battery deteriorate over time even with such little use or should I consider the battery to have a full life ahead of it?
Yes, Those cells do not hold up well over time.
Do you rekon a 2008 estima hybrid under 70,000ks would be ok? Or how much to replace the hybrid battery if needed
Book an inspection and we will take a look.
Hi Im about to buy a March 2015 UK registered vauxhall ampera . Same car as the chevrolet volt.
The car like many was built august 2012 but not regsitered and put on road until 2015. It has only 15000 miles done , most about 13000 done on pure electric. I am concerned that I am really buying an almost six year old car and not a three year old. While I believe the battery was kept maintained from august 2012 to march 2015 I wonder what effect age alone has on battery life?. Many 2012 built cars put on road in 2012 have done 120,000 with no apparent battery deterioration.
I live in Ireland and very rare car here.
thanks for your expert thoughts.
As per the above article. There are many factors to battery deterioration age alone is not a primary factor.
Looking at buying my sisters 2009 Camry with 125,000miles.She is the original owner and is not hard on the car. She said it may need a new battery. What will that cost me if I purchase it from her? I may get the car for $4k. Is that a fair price for a well maintained vehicle of this nature and worth the hassle of replacing the battery?
Sounds pretty cheap
Hi, We have a Prius hybrid 2015. We are retired and travel for 6 months at a time to our second home. How will not using the car for 6 months affect the Prius battery life? What maintenance would you recommend (if any) to extend the life of the battery? Thanks so much for taking the time to respond and help us with this matter.
At that age not likely to effect it.
Hi there! I’m looking into buying a 2010 Ford fusion hybrid with 58,000 miles on it. Should I be concerned about the age of the car, regarding the hybrid battery?

Hi David

Hi David, I am looking at a lexus hybrid 2007, the seller a car dealer says the Hybrid battery was replaced last November before he imported it to NZ from Singapore, he cannot get any written confirmation of this happening, as I asked if it was a new or reconditioned one put in and if he had a receipt for this happening. Is there any way to check if it has been changed, would an AA check pick this up. Thanks Mike.

Dead 12v battery
Hi
I have just bought a 2005 Prius with 140,000 miles on it. I have noticed that it averaged 45 MPG (combined HW and City driving) in the 100 miles I have so far driven. Is that a good/bad indicator on the condition of the hybrid battery?
I am planning to use this Prius for Ubering; so, how much would it cost me to check the condition (balance/imbalance) of the hybrid battery and how much would maintenance (if any) of such battery costs?
Please e-mail your valuable advice to me.
Thanks
We can check it out as part of a standard service
I bought my Prius brand new in December 2013 here it is August 2018 I have 107,000 miles on it and I just did have to replace the battery is this normal

Hi, I plan to buy a 2008 -2010 Highlander Hybrid in the next few months. I don’t like the look of the newer model and cost is a factor, as well. I wonder if the Highlander Hybrid holds up as well as the Prius after 125,000+ miles. How many miles does a Highlander Hybrid last? Thank you.
Have not seen many highlanders to say.
Hi David, I have Toyota Prius 2004 with 245000m am a Uber driver and the car just bring check engine sign and after some heavy traffic the car went off with check engine and the triangle light and since then I have to remove the 12v battery and replace it after some minutes for me to push it from road and since then car is not starting and the light and wiper is low. What could be the problem. Very urgent.
Drop it in and we will take a look
do you do pre inspection checks ?
thanks.
On hybrid battery only check the bookings page
Pessimist view point:
Unless you’re running a taxi service, or perpetually lease vehicles every few years, I do not see the advantage to purchasing a hybrid vehicle. Other than because you wish to support the environment and that’s fine if that’s the case. By the way – how are these hybrid batteries disposed?
If you keep your vehicle beyond 8 years / 100k miles ( I do ), then you’re going to be taking a gamble. If you need to have that battery replaced, not to mention other hybrid specific costs – all those gas savings you experienced in the past 8+ years are going to be wiped out. So, with the added initial cost + hybrid battery expenses, I don’t see the advantage for the average consumer.
Great blog thanks. Looking to purchase a 2009 Prius with 68000km on clock, has battery health score as of today of 72% with new app test. Any idea as to how long before total battery replacement may be required? In South Island NZ
As above article there is more to it than a straight answer.
I have a 2012 Toyota prius c. I recently got an alert to service hybrid system. I took it to auto zone to be check, and it said replace hybrid battery pack. Right now I cannot afford $1500 for a battery. How long can I drive it with this issue?
Depends on the amount of damage.
Hi David
Before buying the japanese used hybrid vehicle, do you think the battery life can be inspected.
Many thanks

My Prius indicate hybrid battery warning and I reset the error message several times. Now driving as normal. Again it will come and I hope to reset it. Can I use my vehicle without replacement of hybrid battery in this way?
Assuming it is a hybrid battery fault it will just make it worse and worse.
I am wanting to purchase a 04 Toyota Prius hybrid. 172,000 miles never had the main battery replaced. Would it be likely the main battery still has life or unlikely and should immediately be replaced? Thanks
No Idea
I’m buying Toyota Camry Hybrid 2012, low mileage only 38K and car has good service record and well maintained. What should I do to ensure that this car doesn’t have any mechanical or electrical issue especially battery life. Appreciate your urgent reply pls.
Keep up the same thing. Find a specialist in your area.
It has been recommended by my Toyota dealer to have our battery fan replaced at 50K and also have a induction service done on our throttle. HAs anyone had that done?
We can simply clean it.
Hi there, there is a link for ‘usa casinos’ in the How old is your vehicle section.
“It is common for us to see private usage vehicles come in for reconditioning usa casinos at the 10-11 year mark.”
Thanks that was random.
Hi David, I bought prius 2010 over an year ago. it used to go 950-1000 kms in full tank, now its not even crossing 800 mark. battery bars drop all of sudden too. so i am assuming there is something wrong with battery. would you suggest reconditioning or replacement? thanks
Depends on how heavy your usage is.
thanks for the interesting article, David! i see it centers around Toyota’s batteries. What are your observation on the battery life of other brands that offer hybrids?
Now, i may be wrong, but i think that our driving habits also affect the battery life in some way.
Honda seems to be more affected by age than anything. A 10 year old 30,000km Honda will have almost no capacity remaining vs a Prius of the same specs would look almost new.
Driving habits don’t have an effect as the ECU controls everything in Hybrids. As for EVs that is a different story altogether.
Hey there, I live in Christchurch.
I’m about to buy a 2009 Lexus HS 250H with 16,000K on the clock.
I love to bring it in to you for a checkup, but Auckland is a bit far away.
Do you know of anyone down here who is capable of a check?
Also, how would the Gel 12v battery be after that time?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
That genuine 12v battery in the Lexus is very good quality should be ok
Hey David I am looking at a 2013 Hybrid corolla fielder done 110,000kms fresh import, 4.5 stars.
Is that too many kms for a decent car, I intend to use it for Uber?
They say they sell protector warranty that will cover hybrids but I thought warrantys dont cover them?
Any thoughts on what I should look out for or avoid this car?>
I live in christchurch so I cant take it to your business.
Check the fine print we have tried to claim a couple of times and been rejected by technicalities.
There is a 2007 Prius with only 12,600 miles. Is there any worry about the battery having a loss of capacity or longevity due to the vehicle sitting for most of it 12 years?
Should be ok but without seeing it it is impossible to say
Hi David,
I am looking at buying a prius plug in, the first version. The one that does around 20ks on EV mode.
I’m curious as to the life expectancy of these batteries. I think they are a 4.4kw lithium unit.
Also I notice most of the dealers are offering 2012 models with the odd 2013/14.
I can find low K ones easy enough at around 50-60,000Ks.
Are we picking up Japans plug-ins that are just about to reach there USE BY date battery wise.
I have no concerns about the petrol unit, seems very impressive.
Have not seen much of these. I couldn’t say
Hi There,

Hi David, did a search on 2013 Prius V w/ about 69K miles on odo. This page was first one to look & did not know your location until you wrote it. I’m in Birmingham Alabama. I see that there are many variables on how long the Hybrid battery will last & you seem very knowledgeable. I’m not working anymore, on disability & really don’t drive roughly 30 miles+ a day anymore. Due to money & trying to save gas, I have gone at least 1 week w/o getting into my vehicle that was hit & I no longer have. I really like the idea of getting 30 mpg+. I know stop & go city driving is not good for a car. If I did purchase the Prius V, would I be doing more damage to the Hybrid battery, etc. by not driving every day? I believe I saw a price of $3K or more to replace the Hybrid & that sorta freaks me living on one damn check. I will definitely take it in & have it checked by someone local. In the past, I have used a battery tender on my motorcycle & another vehicle. Would using a BT on the 12v battery help maintain charge if it was not driven every day? Is there any type of BT that would work on the Hybrid battery? Sorry for the long post.
I know stop & go city driving is not good for a car.
NOt True why would that be.
If I did purchase the Prius V, would I be doing more damage to the Hybrid battery, etc. by not driving every day?
No
Would using a BT on the 12v battery help maintain charge if it was not driven every day?
Just disconnect the 12v if its going to be out of use for an extended period. Or buy one of those 12v Optima Blue batteries and forget about it. I hear they are reasonably cheap in the US
Hi I am looking at a 2011 Honda Fit hybrid with 90,000km on the clock. I can’t seem to find much info on whether the battery for this model would be likely to be in good condition at this age – in your experience is age or mileage more relevant for this one?
We can plug in and take a look. Theres likely to be deterioration how much is not clear at this stage.
HI, i have toyota camry 2011 hybrid (AVV50)
